The Leni Robredo Documentary: To Watch or Not to Watch? That is the Question (and Here’s My Medyo Salty Take)

So, the Leni Robredo documentary is dropping on August 21st. Big. Freaking. Deal.

Look, I’m as Filipino as the next person. I love me some good drama, some heartwarming stories, and hey, maybe even a good cry every now and then. But sometimes, it feels like we’re stuck on replay, you know?

Especially for those of us who poured our hearts and souls into the campaign trail, the thought of re-living everything – the highs, the lows, the cringe – well, let’s just say it brings up some feelings.

This Documentary. This Is It. This Is What We’ve Been Waiting For?

Honestly? A part of me just wants to scream “Nasaan na ang resibo?!” into the void. I mean, I get it. Documentaries are important. They capture history. They tell stories.

But, and maybe it’s just me, I can’t shake off this feeling of “Ano na? Tapos na ‘yung laban!”

We fought. We hoped. We cried buckets of tears (some happy, some masakit sa bangs).

What’s done is done. Right?

But Wait… Baka Naman Masyado Akong Bitter?

Okay, okay. Let’s take a step back, inhale some good vibes, and look at this objectively (char!).

Maybe this documentary is important. Maybe it’s not just for us, the die-hard “Leni Lugaw” gang.

  • For the Future: Imagine some kids, years from now, learning about this time in Philippine history. This documentary could be their gateway to understanding the People’s Campaign, warts and all.
  • For Closure (Or Not? ): Let’s be real, the 2022 elections? That was a rollercoaster ride with a broken safety belt. Maybe this documentary can help some people process everything, find some semblance of peace (or at least, some really good memes).
  • For the Culture: Love her or hate her, Leni Robredo’s story is one for the books. A woman in a world dominated by trapos? Fighting the good fight against all odds? That’s the kind of narrative that deserves to be told (and re-told, and re-told…).

So, Ano Na Nga Ba?

Here’s the thing: I don’t have the answers. Nobody does (except maybe the documentary filmmaker, but that’s a different story).

To watch or not to watch? That’s entirely up to you.

Maybe you need to see it. Maybe you need to avoid it like the plague (or like avoiding your Tito who keeps asking when you’re getting married).

Whatever your decision, let’s just try to be kind to each other, okay? We’ve been through enough drama for one lifetime.

Okay, But Seriously, What Can We Expect From This Documentary?

No one knows for sure, but here are some burning questions that I, for one, desperately need answered:

  • Behind the Pink Curtain: What really went down during the campaign? Spill the tea! Give us the inside scoop, the never-before-seen footage, the chismis!
  • The Woman Behind the Salamin: We saw Leni Robredo the politician, but who is she when the cameras are off? Show us the unguarded moments, the struggles, the triumphs, the tao behind the icon.
  • The Legacy Lives On: The campaign might be over, but the fight for a better Philippines continues. What’s next for Leni Robredo? What about the Angat Buhay movement? Give us hope, damn it!

The Verdict? (Spoiler Alert: I Still Don’t Know)

Look, I’m just as conflicted as you are. Part of me wants to dive headfirst into this documentary, relive the memories (both good and cringe-worthy), and feel all the feels.

But another part of me wants to protect my sanity and avoid anything remotely political for the foreseeable future.

Ultimately, the decision is yours.

Just remember, whatever you do, don’t forget the lessons we learned during the campaign. Don’t forget the hope, the unity, and the power of the Filipino people.

Because even though the election is over, the fight for a better tomorrow never ends.

(Now, excuse me while I go find my “Tayo Ang Liwanag” shirt. Baka sakaling may rally mamaya.)
