BPI Credit Card Cancellation: A Teleserye in Three Acts (And Still No Call Back?!)

Ayan na nga mga ‘tol. It’s official. Officially a baliktuwad moment for me and my BPI credit card. Char!

I mean, who actually enjoys calling customer service, diba? It’s like trying to get a hold of your crush back in high school – all kilig and hope in the beginning, only to be left on read (seen-zoned in today’s terms, I guess?).

I digress.

My point is, I called to cancel my BPI credit card four days ago. FOUR! The agent said the cancellation team would call. Still, crickets so far.

Have you been ghoster-ed by BPI’s cancellation team too? How long did you wait? More importantly, did they try to sweeten the deal to make you stay? Inkwisitive ako eh!

Act One: The “It’s Not You, It’s Me” Talk (aka My Reasons for Wanting to Break Up With My BPI Credit Card)

Look, my BPI card and I, we had a good run. I’m not gonna lie. It was there for me during those “Sale” seasons (you know the ones!), those “deserve ko ‘to” moments, and even bailed me out during one too many “petsa de peligro” situations.

But things change, ‘di ba? Life happens!

Here’s the thing: I moved abroad. Like, really moved. Plane ticket, balikbayan box – the whole shebang!

And my BPI card? Well, it’s started to feel like that ex who just doesn’t get the hint. We’ve grown apart.

Here are my issues, in case you’re experiencing the same hugot:

  • Annual Fee Drama: I swear, reversing the annual fee is harder than explaining to your Tita why you’re still single! I have to meet a certain amount of spending every year, which is hard now that I’m using a different currency. It’s like trying to fit in all your pasalubong into one balikbayan box – pilit much?!
  • Lost Its Spark: Most of the perks are Philippines-based. So, yeah, not much use to me now. Parang long distance relationship na hindi na nagwo-work.
  • Commitment Issues: I’m eyeing a new credit card, one that better fits my new lifestyle here abroad. Don’t judge! It’s called moving on!

Act Two: The Dreaded Phone Call (And the Waiting Game Begins)

So, there I was, phone glued to my ear like it was chizmis about the latest showbiz tsismis. After navigating the BPI hotline options (which feels longer than a teleserye with 100+ episodes), I finally got an agent.

I laid out my reasons for wanting to cancel – clear, concise, parang thesis defense lang. The agent, bless his soul, tried his best to convince me to stay.

“Ma’am, we can waive the annual fee this time.”

“Ma’am, you can use the card for online purchases!”

But my mind was made up. I was ready to be free!

He finally said he’d log my request and the all-powerful cancellation team would call me within 24-48 hours.

24-48 hours have passed. Then 72 hours. Now, it’s been 96 hours (or 4 whole days)!

Ano na, BPI? Don’t leave me hanging! This is getting more intense than the cliffhanger ending of your favorite teleserye!

Act Three: The Anticipation (Will They, Won’t They? And What’s the Deal?!)

So here I am, stuck in this weird limbo. I’m not sure if I should be expecting a call, an email, a singing telegram, or… absolutely nothing!

Based on my extensive (read: five minutes on Google) research, I’ve heard whispers that BPI might try to win you back with some tempting offers:

  • Annual Fee Waiver: The classic move. They might offer to waive the annual fee for a year or two. It’s tempting, I’ll admit, but will it be worth it in the long run? Parang panliligaw lang ‘yan, eh!
  • Bonus Points: Who can resist some extra points, right? It’s like finding a hidden stash of chichirya at the back of the pantry – a delightful surprise! But again, will those points outweigh the benefits of a card that actually suits my needs?
  • Card Upgrade: They might offer to upgrade you to a card with better perks or rewards. Hmmm, now this is getting interesting! But I’m playing hard to get, BPI. Show me what you got!

The Final Act: To Cancel or Not to Cancel? (That is the Question!)

So, dear reader, I’m at a crossroads. Do I wait for this elusive call from the BPI cancellation team and see what they offer? Or do I cut my losses and embrace the freedom of being credit card-free (at least for now)?

Stay tuned for the next episode of this teleserye! I’ll update you when (or if!) BPI ever calls back.

In the meantime, hit me up in the comments if you’ve been through this BPI credit card cancellation saga. What happened? Did they offer you a deal you couldn’t refuse?

Let’s swap stories – because misery (and credit card woes) love company! 😉
