Naging Kolektor si Ninong?! Confessions of a Credit Card “Warrior” 🤕

Okay, kapit lang mga ‘tol! Let’s talk about the elephant in the room – credit card debt. Alam ko, alam ko, parang biglang lumamig ang hangin, ‘no? Parang biglang may tumatawag na unknown number at feeling mo bank mo na naman.

I feel you. We’ve all been there. 🙋‍♀️

Look, we’re all trying to adult here, and sometimes, adulting means facing those scary bills. Especially those credit card bills that seem to multiply faster than your tita’s collection of succulents.

So, here’s the thing – remember that kwento I shared about that EastWest credit card from way back in 2015? Yeah, the one I thought I could outrun? (Spoiler alert: You can’t outrun credit card debt. It always catches up. Lesson learned the hard way.)

Flashback to 2015: I was young, feeling invincible (thanks to my new credit card!), and basically living my best #YOLO life. Fast forward to 2016, reality hit harder than a Titas of Manila Facebook post. That ₱20,000 remaining balance? It followed me like a shadow.

Fast forward to now: I get a call. Not just any call. A call from a sheriff, mga ‘tol! Telling me my utang ended up in the Regional Trial Court of Pasig. Cue the dramatic music!

Cue the Panic Attack 🤯

So, I did what any self-respecting millennial would do: I panicked. Then, I called the lawyer.

The Lawyer, the Debt, and a Whole Lotta Drama

Turns out, my small debt ballooned to a whopping ₱67,000! (Insert shocked Pikachu face here.)

Apparently, there were fees upon fees upon fees. It felt like I was trapped in a Jollibee commercial, but instead of Chickenjoy, I was drowning in debt.

The lawyer, smooth talker that he was, offered a “settlement” of ₱51,000. But here’s the catch: I had to pay by Monday.

Monday?! It felt like the universe was conspiring against me. And to add to the pressure, he said if I didn’t pay, the sheriff would come knocking with the barangay officials and the police! Talk about pressure, parang instant reunion na lang sa bahay!

So, here are my questions, mga ‘tol:

  • Is this even legal? Can they really just take my stuff like that?
  • What happens if I can’t pay the whole amount?
  • And most importantly, how do I avoid ending up in this situation again?

Stay tuned, because in the next part, I’ll be sharing:

  • The Real Deal with Credit Card Debt: We’re going to break down all those confusing terms and conditions, so you don’t have to.
  • Knowing Your Rights: What those collectors can and can’t do.
  • Winning the Credit Card Game: Tips and tricks on how to manage your finances like a boss.

This isn’t just about me anymore; this is about helping each other out. Because trust me, you don’t want to be in my shoes right now.

Hang in there, mga ‘tol. We’ll get through this together. 💪
